5 Surefire Leadership Tips to Bring Your Team to the Next “LEVEL”

Would you consider yourself a leader? Better yet, would your team consider you a leader?

For some, leadership is just a title, and others know and understand the amount of responsibility that comes with leadership and authority. If you have the desire to grow your company and team beyond belief, it all starts with leadership. That, my friends, begins with you!

After reading this article, you will understand and be able to implement an acronym I call “LEVEL,” because in order for us to maintain business success, we must be able to LEVEL UP!

LEAD from the front. A leader that leads by pointing a finger and delegating work isn’t an effective leader. During my time in the military, I realized that the more I engaged with my team and proved that I was a leader who can also perform the work I was delegating, production and task completion skyrocketed to the point we were weeks ahead of schedule.

Be the leader who practices the phrase, “Let’s do this,” rather than, “Go do this.”

EMPOWER your team. While being a leader does involve you being the decision maker many times, there will be times when people are going to come to you with questions and in need of guidance. Problem is, if you are always the one with all the answers, how will your team learn and how will they become self-sufficient and reliant?

This is your moment to empower your team. Rather than giving all the answers just to get the work done, empower them to be problem solvers and find the answers for themselves. Give them tools and challenge them on their own thought process. By doing that you are making your overall responsibility easier by molding new leaders.

Remember the quote, “Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime.”

VISION casting. Do you believe that many times leaders are the ones to believe in you and your potential long before you do? It is our job and responsibility to uplift our team. Paint a vision for them and their future by finding out their skills, talents, interests, etc. Regardless if life is amazing or challenging for them, help them to see past the current circumstances and see what life can be like with persistence.

ENCOURAGE growth. Being a leader also means being the supporter and encourager. Being able to see the potential in others before they see it in themselves is more often than not a contributing factor to the growth of confidence within your team. How do we do that? Through personal development and with action steps, your team will begin to eventually thrive. Give them the books to read and always help them think on a higher level than themselves. Encourage them to grow beyond where they already are. Paint the vision of where they could be with growth.

LOVE on your team. This was actually challenging for me when I first earned my leadership position. I was always concerned with the bottom line. I wasn’t worried about what was going on with my team outside of work or business. However, a mentor once told me something that would change my life. He said, “Love them. Even when they don’t perform or they disappoint you, love them regardless.” Once I started showing compassion to my team and showing that I care, the standards they held for themselves went up. Production went up. Even the team culture went up massively. All because I showed that they were truly more important than bottom line results.

This all goes back to the saying, “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”

All in all, if you want to grow your team and your bottom line results, understand that everything rises and falls upon your leadership skills and your ability to improve those skills consistently.

Lastly, I leave you with a reminder; “Your business grows only as much as you grow.”
