2020 is approaching. In a few weeks, we will bring in the new year with champagne, family, friends, and celebration. As the year comes to a close, it is time to look back at 2019 and take stock of our business and personal life. It is time to examine and reflect on the previous 365 days. Some of these days were amazing, while some of those days might have been tough. The last 365 days are now part of our history, and just like the history lessons we learned in school, it is time to study the past to guarantee we have an amazing future. As the new year approaches, I want to encourage every entrepreneur to do these three things:
Celebrate and Learn From Your Accomplishments.
You have accomplished a lot of things in 2019. Some of your accomplishments may have been huge, while some of your achievements were small victories. No matter the size of the triumph it is now time to celebrate.
It is important to acknowledge and celebrate your wins. When you do, you become your biggest cheerleader. You are giving yourself the motivation to keep moving forward, even when things are tough.
While you are celebrating your accomplishments, you should also look at what you did right. How did those things help you achieve your goals? Make note of your mindset leading up to the win. Look at what skills helped you get there. Think about the people who helped you complete your goal.
2. Learn The Lessons
Everyone fails and during 2019 you failed at something, and that is ok. Although you may not have reached some of your goals, it is now time to fail forward and look at the lessons from the past year.
Failure is a part of success. It can make you even more successful if you learn to fail forward or leverage the failure to your advantage. While you do not want to dwell and obsess about the mistakes you have made, you do want to examine and learn from these mistakes.
Take the time to look at the mistakes from 2019, and ask yourself what you could have done differently. Look at what skills you need to learn to avoid mistakes like that in the future. Then ask yourself what kind of people do I need to surround myself with in order to be successful.
3. Set Goals
Say no to New Years Resolutions. Instead, focus on setting goals. Set one big goal for 2019 and set smaller goals to help you reach your bigger goal.
Use the SMART goal formula to help you turn your dreams into ambitious, but achievable goals. Ensure that your goals are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-Bound.
Example: I will increase my profit for Q1 by 20% by contacting 35% more cold leads.
Use these next few weeks to reflect on the past year. Take what you have learned and turn it into a guide to help you succeed and Be Unstoppable in 2020.
