Yoichi “Chef Yum Yum” Kato
A new year is upon us again! While we all enjoy the festivities, we get to look into our lives and reflect on the areas that need improvement, and our finances can always use a boost. Cooking is my favorite thing to do. Recipes are just like everything else: add what will make the food better and remove what doesn’t work. I don’t have an encyclopedic knowledge of all the possible ways I can cook one dish, but I do know the basic principles which I apply to other areas of my life.
Joy. My family follows a tradition where we all eat together every Sunday. Cooking for the people I love brings me an enormous amount of joy. I cannot put into words the ecstasy I feel when I see my family, friends and clients smiling after eating the food I prepared for them.
Innovation. Mediterranean dishes have been my favorite for years. Then one day while eating it, I realized that something was amiss. Nothing stays the same. Even food has trends. One day everyone’s talking about the elegance of French dishes, and then the next day they’re gushing over the burst of flavors in Asian cuisines. While Mediterranean dishes remain my food of choice, my palate has changed. I’ve created recipes that combine ingredients from regions all over the world.
Value. Here is the main ingredient to ensure success in all we do. I cook for everyone, and it’s not enough to whip up something that will please each person’s palate. The food I prepare must also serve each person’s health. Creating recipes with well-being in mind requires extra research. It has been a constant practice of mine to read studies on nutrition and create my recipes around them. Giving value to the world requires patience and work.
These days seem to blur from one to the next, and I look back with gratitude that I have instilled these principles in life and work. This allows me to keep my current clients year by year and acquire new ones by word of mouth. The personal growth I achieve by the incessant practice of these principles not only gives me personal meaning but also increases my finances. Don’t we all want that?
I am excited for what’s to come, and I’m happy to leave behind the past. Let’s welcome 2020 with a smile and a pocket full of money!
I would love to hear how you have applied these secret ingredients in your life and business! Send me a message to my Instagram (@yoichijkato) and let me know how it helped you!
