Business in the Roaring 20s with Robots

Dustin Gannon

Welcome back to the Roaring 20s.  Has our increased diversity and usage of technology changed us or are there lessons from the past that can allow us to increase our sales and businesses today?

Let’s take a look.

100 years ago, the prohibition of alcohol was the major talk of the nation; however, today it is the repeal of the prohibition of Marijuana in our society.  The women’s suffrage movement empowered women with the right to vote, and today women’s empowerment remains a hot topic. Henry Ford’s Model T was in the process of revolutionizing transportation, and today Elon Musk and Tesla usher in affordable, clean transportation.  Alexander Graham Bell connected a nation with his telephone system, while today Mark Zuckerberg has connected our planet with a few taps of a screen.

Where does this leave us?

If you’re like most entrepreneurs, you oscillate between dreams of exponential success and the challenges of growing your business today on a day-to-day practical level.  How can we think like the icons of old and build a plan for your business with these increased technological and cultural aspects of our society today?

What does that look like?

California has nearly three billion dollars in marijuana sales in 2019, with states like Michigan recently joining the party.  How does that influx of capital into a new marketplace translate to your business? Are there opportunities for new products, partnerships, cobranding, or tribe swapping with these fast-growing companies?  For example: if you sell cupcakes or delicious snacks how do you sell to the new market of munchies hungry people?

With the rise of women’s independence and rising wages, how does the modern woman consumer view your business? What are you doing to make your business more accessible and enjoyable to the women who work around you and with you?  For example, has your team thought through your marketing and customer archetypes for selling and marketing to both women and men in unique ways?

When it comes to transportation, how does the green consumer change the way you go to market?  Are there practical ways your business lower costs with electric vehicles? Do we even need to burn fuel to physically be somewhere to increase our business goals?  Get a trial of Zoom or Webex and see how easy it is to go virtual.

How do you increase your sales when it comes to a global marketplace? Do you have a plan, taking advantage of Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok, Google, and others? What strategies to engage via these new channels are successful? What is a waste of time?  I recommend you have a social media expert to make sure your business is succeeding in this rapidly changing game.

So where does that leave us today?

The world has changed in so many ways in the last 100 years.  Bring on the Roaring Twenties, with robots, self driving cars, and a globally connected future, and build out a plan to increase your business success today.
