Because we care, a 73 year-old residence hall is restored to build something new. The renovation of Hopkins Hall now houses the Mary Lou Cornwall Hawkes ’65 and James B. Hawkes Physician Assistant (PA) Program—a 24-month Master of Medical Science degree designed to prepare future providers in primary care and maternal health, fields where Georgia’s need is greatest.
The building bridges past and future, carrying forward a legacy of care while equipping students to deliver it in new ways. Recently ranked #1 in Most Innovative Schools by U.S. News & World Report in the 2026 edition of Best Colleges, Hopkins Hall transformed its mission into medicine, a direct response to a lack in community care is now the future of community care.
Within its restored brick walls, 3-D Anatomage tables, clinical exam suites, and simulation labs immerse students in hands-on learning through in all disciplines of medicine from community health to pediatrics. Flexible classrooms support collaboration, while private study rooms and a top-floor lounge offer quiet space to recharge—balancing technical rigor with emotional wellbeing.
The project embodies what happens when design and education share a single motivation: because we care.
