Designed as a living learning center, Bristol County Agricultural High School’s new Center for Science and the Environment (CSE) supports science and environmental research with state-of-the-art labs and specialized academic spaces. Home to a student-curated natural resource museum, bio-secure labs, flexible classrooms, and a student-planted roof garden, the CSE accommodates Bristol Aggie’s highly technical programs with innovative technology, lighting and thermal control, and specialized equipment.
The CSE functions as a teaching tool with sustainable building systems and design elements that reduce energy use, carbon emissions, and water consumption; contribute to a healthy interior environment; and promote hands-on learning. The CSE is the first public school building in Massachusetts to have composting toilets, which help reduce annual water use by 68% from code and educate students about water conservation. Additional sustainable design elements include green roofs, photovoltaics, and rainwater collection and reuse systems.
Bold and educational wall graphics illustrate scientific concepts from Bristol Aggie’s curriculum and help cultivate a unique and memorable learning environment for students, teachers, and visitors.
