Georgia Tech envisioned more than a renovated office for its Human Resources department—it sought to create a workplace that reflects its commitment to employee well-being, collaboration, and innovation. This 14,500 sq. ft. renovation transforms two levels of the Human Resources Building into a vibrant destination where faculty, staff, and prospective employees begin their journey with the Institute. By centralizing essential campus services within a flexible, hospitality-inspired environment, the project creates a workplace that is as welcoming as it is functional.
The design reimagines how administrative environments can support the mission of higher education. Open collaboration areas, reservable workspaces, technology-enabled meeting rooms, and inviting community spaces encourage connection, mentorship, and knowledge sharing, while abundant natural daylight and thoughtful interior design enhance the everyday employee experience. Rather than simply accommodating today’s workplace, the building is designed to adapt alongside Georgia Tech’s evolving organizational needs.
For May Architecture, the project reflects a belief that the most impactful educational environments are not limited to classrooms or laboratories. We design places that strengthen institutions by investing in the people who make them successful. The Georgia Tech Human Resources Progressive Workplace demonstrates how thoughtful workplace design can reinforce organizational culture, support employee well-being, and ultimately advance the university’s broader mission of education, research, and service.
