South Foundation Hall is one of the oldest buildings located on the University’s main campus and hosts the core classrooms for incoming students. To address academic space shortage and enhance modern styles of teaching and learning, the project proposed to renovate and expand the 59‐year‐old building.
The existing 50,000 SF building was renovated to upgrade and/or replace all mechanical and electrical systems, information technology, and audio-visual systems. A 30,000 SF addition was built to further transform the building into a 21st-century learning environment with technology-centered classroom and collaboration spaces. Originally holding thirty-seven classrooms, South Foundation Hall’s remodel adds ten more classrooms, as well as an updated lounge area for students to study.
Another goal of this project was to transform the building into a multidisciplinary active learning environment with a variety of sizes and layouts for both undergraduate and graduate use. It features the latest technology-equipped teaching and learning classrooms and collaboration spaces, targeted for the growing STEM and human health curriculum.
