A4LE: A Leader in the Space of Education

By Charles “Chuck” Saylors

No matter where you live, no matter where you work, no matter the size of your community, we all face an everyday issue that is critical for the collective future of education; providing a safe, high quality, technologically advanced learning environment! This is a local conversation by its nature that has a global reach, and every day the members of the Association for Learning Environments (A4LE) help address these needs.

For over 100 years, A4LE has been known as the best intersection for where design, planning, construction, support and school system professionals can share their talent, knowledge and best practices. This allows anyone who wants to see our teachers succeed and students thrive can find a home in A4LE.

Our member professionals, who work every day in the school planning, design, construction and supply industries, bring to this effort their valuable talent and resources to support our school systems in meeting their goals of providing our students, and teachers, a quality learning space that supports student success.

All too often, because of limited resources or reduced funding levels, school system staffs are asked to do more with less. This is unfortunate because these dedicated individuals work hard to meet the primary expectation of providing the best possible learning environment. In supporting their valuable work A4LE has expanding our engagement with school system professionals.

It is A4LE’s responsibility to provide the support and training opportunities for all interested professionals. Our Association has the ability to provide training for public sector professionals through aspiring superintendents programs, the sharing of best practices when it comes to school operations, how to identify the best products and tactics when expending public dollars, and more. For our members in the design and delivery industries our Association provides leading edge training and accreditation through a micro-credentialing program, our ALEP program and Advanced Academy, to name a few. Our focus is delivering current, accurate, high-quality programming, all supported by a strategic plan that is member focused.

A4LE is the thought leader within the industry. We are a member-based Association, not a for-profit organization, that strives to ensure that our industry has a balance of opportunities, always in place, when it comes to our members’ support of our educational systems. At the local and state levels you will find a vast network of A4LE members leading our Chapters and Regions. Regardless of your location, A4LE has a presence.

At the Global level, A4LE works to provide leadership opportunities through service on any number of Committees and Task Forces. Our programs and deliverables set us apart because of the work related to Membership, Diversity, Design Recognition, Communications, and much more!

Because the members of A4LE are primarily involved on work related to the built environment, we have a unique perspective on school planning, design and construction. A natural extension of the work associated with the built environment is the inclusion of educational professionals with instructional delivery experience.

The opportunities that we can reach together, by supplying a better understanding of how instruction and construction can serve as one, gives our end users; our students and their teachers; endless possibilities. One of our most popular programs is SchoolsNEXT. This project-based, student-led program partners design professionals with students in grades 6–12 and focuses on student ideas for the classrooms of tomorrow.

For over 100 years, A4LE has been known as the best intersection for where design, planning, construction, support and school system professionals can share their talent, knowledge and best practices. This allows anyone who wants to see our teachers succeed and students thrive can find a home in A4LE.

If you are a school system professional and you need a value-added resource, a connection with those who want you to succeed, a place to call a professional home, get involved in A4LE. We have a global reach, that addresses your community’s needs every day!
