Artesia High School’s transformation is none more apparent than in the media center / student union, which replaces the school’s former library. With this update, moveable furniture and repurposed circulation desks facilitate gatherings of all sizes. Thin acoustic panels flow in waves along the ceiling amid cylindrical soffits and light fixtures, accentuating the dynamic atmosphere. There’s something for everyone—study zones, resources for small group activities, and a store where students can buy food and school memorabilia. Two classrooms were also added with moveable walls to enhance flexibility. Overall, it’s a communal area with a sense of place, one that revives the school’s spirit and lends a sense of belonging to all.
Campuswide, cutting-edge improvements to infrastructure enhance safety, comfort, and connectivity. Data drops, wireless access points in key locations, and an increase in data transfer rates from one to 10 gigabytes help students and teachers keep pace with modern learning. New fire alarms, a new fire line for sprinklers in the science lab, and campus-wide security measures, including cameras, electronic locks, and fencing, keep everyone safe. Restroom fixtures and plumbing also received an update, and upgrades to the cooling system improve the comfort and usability of learning spaces.
