Elementary schools are often anchors of a community providing places that extend beyond the purpose of educating children to become hubs of activity that reflect the history, values, and hopes of its citizens.
For Comal ISD, it was necessary to provide future focused learning environments that reflect the mission and goals of the fast-growth district. Farias-Spitzer Elementary and Comal Creek Elementary provide prototypical environments for students to take root and grow their abilities in unique ways allowing each child to branch out and become an engaged and contributing citizen.
O’Connell Robertson worked with the district to identify different types of instructional spaces to promote more accessible and equitable learning. By blurring the boundaries between learning settings, the elementary schools are designed to provide students with opportunities to encounter spaces of discovery. Throughout the building, flexible learning spaces also provide teachers with options to create meaningful multimodal learning experiences to support diverse young learners.
