The Wayne Roberts ’85 Building is a transformative addition to the Mays Business Education Complex at Texas A&M University, designed by Kirksey Architecture to reflect the evolving nature of business education and professional collaboration. The 81,400 sq. ft., four-story facility serves more than 7,400 undergraduate, graduate, and executive students and provides a future-focused academic environment tailored to the next generation of business leaders.

Located on the university’s West Campus, the building resolves visibility and access challenges by establishing a new front door for the business school. It completes a trio of facilities—including the Wehner Building and West Campus Library—anchored by the ConocoPhillips Collaboration Plaza, a shared outdoor commons that encourages interaction among students, faculty, and guests.

The building reimagines traditional academic typologies with no faculty offices and instead emphasizes active learning, peer engagement, and real-world relevance. It includes eight flexible learning studios with glass walls, 18 enclosed collaboration rooms, over 220 open huddle seats, and a full-service café. The three-story atrium supports both daily activity and large-scale events, while the fourth floor houses the Center for Executive Development—purpose-built for corporate learners and alumni engagement.

Kirksey’s design integrates wellness and sustainability at every level. Natural daylighting, acoustical performance, a meditation room, and wellness-forward circulation strategies prioritize user comfort and mental health. Regional materials—including Texas limestone, bronze-toned metal panels, and wood slat ceilings—reinforce a modern academic identity rooted in context. The building is targeting LEED certification and includes energy-efficient systems, native landscaping, and durable assemblies for long-term operational performance.

By blurring the lines between learning, working, and community, the Wayne Roberts Building positions Texas A&M’s Mays Business School at the forefront of a changing educational landscape. It is a high-performance learning environment, a corporate engagement hub, and a campus destination that reflects the values of integrity, innovation, and leadership at the heart of the Aggie experience.
