Designed by Stantec and C2AE, the Caledonia Community Center is a shared civic resource created through a partnership between Caledonia Community Schools and the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids. Developed as part of the district’s 2020 Bond Program, the facility expands access to wellness, recreation, and athletic opportunities while maximizing the value of a single public investment.
Serving students, YMCA members, and residents of all ages, the center includes a competition gymnasium, competition and leisure pools, fitness areas, an indoor walking track, flexible community rooms, and family-focused amenities.
Inspired by the refraction of light through water, the architecture is defined by a cantilevered translucent “prism” at the main entrance. The element reveals activity during the day and glows at night, creating a welcoming civic beacon. Inside, durable, regionally sourced materials connect program spaces and support clear wayfinding.
From morning fitness classes to evening swim practices and weekend family activities, the building serves as a daily gathering place. Views of surrounding woodlands and future playfields reinforce its role as a hub for wellness, connection, and community life in Caledonia.
