Stratton Hall, built in 1894 as WPI’s original School of Engineering, has served many departments for over 130 years. Its recent renovation focused on enhancing functionality, accessibility, and sustainability while honoring its historic character and enhancing the wellbeing of those experiencing the building.
A new “Link” structure was added, featuring an enclosed stair, elevator, and connection to an adjacent building—improving safety, accessibility, and circulation. This addition also resolved egress issues and created new student spaces for study and relaxation.
A continuous main corridor was introduced to improve wayfinding and connect classrooms, labs, offices, and amenities. Modern features include lounges, meeting rooms, and study areas to support collaboration and individual work. Each floor now has accessible bathrooms.
Energy-efficient upgrades—such as spray insulation, insulated windows, and a modern HVAC system—ensure optimal comfort and sustainability.
The renovation transformed Stratton Hall into a state-of-the-art math facility that supports a dynamic, inclusive, and flexible learning environment.
